Pubcast 160 – Cademon Brewing Co.

The pubcast begins with a visit to Noon Whistle‘s Oktoberfest celebrations, but then we travel out West and visit with brewer/owner of Cademon Brewing, Andrew Nordman.
Situated in Genoa, IL, the brewery is located in a turn of the century building on Main Street (Rt. 72).

We try their beers and their craft sodas and chat with Andrew about his background and philosophy, and his involvement with brewing system, Brewbot.

Weaved into our visit is our Style of the Week, Stout, and Brewmaster Mark gives us his views and some notes on this style.

It’s a bumper edition, so grab your favorite brew and settle in, or if you are driving and listening, just hold off on the brew till you get home!

Pubcast 159 – We’ve hit Rock Bottom!

Continuing with a seasonal theme, in this edition we talk with Rock Bottom brewers Ray Gonzalez and Shanya Polowczak, at the Warrenville location, and discover great things are brewing over there for Oktoberfest.

Also, a new segment, Style of the Week, where we feature a BJCP style each week and learn more about it from Mark Naski.  This edition is Kolsch, and Mark tells us all about the roots of this brew, and we taste Three Floyd’s Calumet Queen as a sample.

All this and we finish with a barrel aged Shipwreck Baltic-style Porter from Arcadia Brewing in Michigan, and agree this is one to put on your tasting list.

Pubcast 158 – Fall Beers and Fall Guys!

It is at this time of year that the annual Fall styles begin to appear. While all the brewers are at GABF, the pub crew plus guests get together and try three October styles, and horror or horrors, one pumpkin ale!
We try Two Brothers Atom Smasher, Church Street Itascafest, Urban Chestnut Oachkatzlschwoaf, and Almanac’s Dark Pumpkin Sour.
Prost!

Pubcast 157 – A Meading of the Minds…Mead and Trappist Ale

We stretch our comfort zones in this episode, and jump into the world of mead! We taste a homebrew, and two commercial versions, B. Nektar and  Crafted Artisan Meadery – which do you think we prefer?

Plus we taste a bonus beer, Spencer, the first Trappist Ale to be brewed in the USA, and we don’t Monk-ey around!  Cheers!
